Hollywood’s Biggest Flops

Hollywood has produced many smash-hit blockbusters throughout the years. Many successful films are produced by some of the world’s most famous directors each year. However, many people often forget about the biggest flops of the film industry, which are of course outshined by the star-studded successes that many filmmakers produce regularly. Hence – what are the biggest flops Hollywood has made in the past few years?

Jupiter Ascending
This is a film about an ordinary cleaner named Jupiter Jones and an interplanetary warrior, Caine Wise, who informs Jones that her destiny extends beyond Earth. The movie stars Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum and Eddie Redmayne, and was directed by the famous Wachowski siblings. The film was a massive flop, considering it had a budget of $176 million and only made back $184 million. Some critics have labelled it ridiculous due to its incoherent screenplay, Eddie Redmayne’s terrible performance and an over-reliance on special effects.

Evan Almighty
This is a 2007 American fantasy comedy film and a spin off to Bruce Almighty. It was directed by Tom Shadyac and written by Steve Oedekerk, starring Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman, Lauren Graham, John Goodman, John Michael Higgins, Jimmy Bennet and Wanda Sykes. The film was so awful that its box office didn’t even reach its budget, and only made $173.4 million compared to its $175 million budget. Critics said it wasn’t funny and the Rolling Stones said it was one of the year’s worst movies. It was also notable for allegations that many animals used in the film were treated poorly.

Transformers: Age of Extinction
This is the 4th instalment of the Transformers film series. It was directed by Michael Bay and Stars Mark Wahlberg and Peter Cullen. It’s box office surpassed its budget by a long way making $1.104 billion from a $210 million budget. However, although it made a lot of money, it did not stop the film from getting 7 nominations at the 35th Golden Raspberry awards. Critics also said that it was poorly written, poorly acted and that it was a complete waste of time.
